Our Story
We are Mike and Amy. Two adventurers who just fulfilled our life-long goal of traveling around the world. Our loves include food, music, travel, great people, teaching and learning, the outdoors, wine, beer, and, did we mention travel? We met in college at the University of Denver and subsequently spent six years living in Colorado and enjoying the beautiful Rockies. We got married and worked for several years; Mike as a hospitality management professional and Amy as a marketing executive in the bioscience industry. January 2012 marked the beginning of The Chamborres Expedition and we returned to the United States in April 2013.
Our Vision
Through our expedition, we aim to experience new cultures by making personal connections and indulging in local cuisine, traditional customs, native spirits and indigenous music. Our main objectives are to live in the moment, simplify our life, and step out of our comfort zone. We hope that by living with a sense of adventure, exploring the world’s natural beauty and sharing our experience with others, we will gain a new perspective on the world.
Why ‘Chamborres’?
It took several weeks and many discussions over Gloria Ferrer to decide on our last name. Yes, you read that right. OUR last name. It was important to us to share the same last name, but Amy’s feminist side was against the ‘woman takes man’s last name’ cultural expectation. So we came up with a few variations combining our ‘maiden’ names: Torrlain and Chamborres were the front runners and either would have been one of the most unique last names out there. In the end, neither prevailed, but via our blog, Chamborres lives on!
Awesome 🙂
Lol – awesome bit about creating your own last name. We played around with creating a combination of ours as well, but all possible combinations just sound ‘blegh’. We ended up keeping both of our ‘maiden’ names. I like Chamborres though.
Thanks Jill. Some combo names do work really well – Chamborres does have a nice ring but we ended up hyphenating in the end:)
